Competitions :

If you like surfing, there are at least three competitions you're sure to enjoy.
They take place all over the world, on spots that are all different and each more incredible than the last.

Of these three competitions, the best known is undoubtedly the World Championship Tour (WCT) organized by the WSL (World Surf League), an American company that organizes professional surfing competitions.

The competition generally takes place between February and December, and takes in all the world's most beautiful spots.

Only the top 32 surfers who qualified for the World Qualifying Series (WQS) are included.

To win, surfers must accumulate as many points as possible. They earn these points during the various events on the tour, and this is how the rankings are established.

Another world-class competition is the ISA World Surfing Games (International Surf Association).

The competition brings together over 40 different nations. Each nation puts together a team of 6 surfers, including 2 women and 4 men. This brings the total number of surfers to between 200 and 240.

As the event unfolds, surfers take it in turns to compete against each other, all hoping to get as far as possible by completing as many stages as possible.

Various titles are awarded during this competition. An individual title for men and women, as well as two team titles.

This competition also serves to prepare and select the surfers who will take part in the Tokyo Olympic Games, where surfing is now represented.

As mentioned above, this year's Olympic Games (postponed from 2020 to 2021 due to the pandemic) are hosting a number of new events, including surfing!

The Olympic Games competition is run in the same way as a shortboard competition.

Surfers must have competed in the last two ISA World Surfing Games to be eligible for the Olympic Games.

However, only two surfers per nation and per gender will be allowed into the competition.
